THIS CALL HAS CLOSED.
San Antonio’s multi-arts festival is scheduling programming from November 9th-11th, with the epic night festival on Friday, November 10, 2017. Luminaria invites you, your gallery, your collective, or other creative organization to submit work for this highly competitive showcase. Submit your proposal by May 10th to be part of this edgy celebration of contemporary arts in downtown San Antonio, Texas.
Project Proposals will be evaluated on their overall professionalism, creativity, originality, and innovation. There is only one application form to submit, whether your work is visual, performance, literary, musical, environmental, fashion, comedy, film, dance or a combination of artistic genres. Cross-discipline works are encouraged. All artists are required to be present at the festival and open to interacting with the public.
All works must be created specifically for Luminaria, unless Luminaria is also its Texas or US premiere. Art work sales are not permitted at the festival.
All proposals must be submitted via this online application process.
Luminaria believes in fair compensation, and as a nonprofit organization we understand selected projects may need to seek additional funds. In the past, typical Luminaria artist payments have ranged from $250 to $5,000 depending on the scope of work.
This year, artists will select a requested budget of $250, $500, $1000, $2500 or $5000. Please consider the scope of your project when selecting your requested budget. Luminaria does not have a formula for how the funds will be awarded amongst the different budget levels. Luminaria will provide funds upon completion of the project / on the festival weekend.
Our Mission Statement:
Luminaria delivers an annual contemporary arts program that includes a festival of international stature; supports downtown development; and brings attention to San Antonio arts and culture.
|Artwork Location Description
Because Luminaria moves the festival footprint annually within San Antonio, we want you to know that Luminaria 2017 will be in the downtown Hemisfair District. Our anchor artistic partners include the Instituto Cultural de Mexico, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and Magik Theatre -- providing Luminaria indoor programming in 3 theatres and 3 visual art galleries. Outdoors, programming can be situated on the front porches / facades of 6 historic homes and 1 gazebo, within the family friendly Yanaguana Park, on 1 stage, and off the newly renovated E. Nueva Street. Luminaria expects more locations within the footprint to be confirmed. The festival will be accessible from Alamo Street and from the San Antonio Riverwalk.
Luminaria welcomes specific location requests, but will make final placement decisions within the footprint. Luminaria provides basic site, staging, lighting and electrical needs. Artists are responsible for their installation / performance needs and any special equipment. We will work with featured artists to confirm logistics.
