Fulton County Arts & Culture (FCAC) Public Arts Program invites experienced professional artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to create an original and site-responsive sculpture for the Government Center Plaza, located at 141 Pryor Street Atlanta, addressing broad themes connectivity to our cities/citizens, customer service, technology and the diversity of Fulton County.

Artists and artist teams with at least 5 years of professional public art experience and residing in the State of Georgia are eligible to apply. University students, Fulton County employees, and FCAC contractors are ineligible to apply.
 
Project Description
Fulton County Arts & Culture (FCAC) Public Arts Program invites experienced professional artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to create an original and site-responsive sculpture for the Government Center Plaza, located at 141 Pryor Street Atlanta, addressing broad themes of customer service, technology, and a forward thinking County. The work should also reflect the cultural and geographical diversity of the County.

The primary location of the work will be the semi-circle wall on the south-western side of the plaza (image in the attached documents). The dimensions of the wall are 69ft (length) x 12ft (height). It is expected that the existing red frame will be removed unless the artist seeks to make use of the structure creatively. The sculpture is not expected to make use of the entire area, although the finalist will need to address how the visible sections of the wall will look. The sculpture is expected to be low maintenance and able to withstand all environmental conditions. Ideas for the wall may be broad in addressing broad themes of connectivity to our cities/citizens, customer service, technology, and the diversity of our county. The ideas under consideration may range from art to the utilization of digital technology.

Following a Community Public Art Selection Panel review of qualifications, up to three finalists will be invited to attend an information session and site visit in August 2019. Full proposals will be due in late September 2019 where the finalists will present their proposal in person to the Selection Panel. Each finalist (artist or artist team) will receive an all-inclusive $1,200 honorarium to complete the full proposal. The final selected artist(s) will enter into a contract with Fulton County to refine the design and implement the proposed commission.

All materials must be submitted through PublicArtist.org by June 30, 11:59 pm CT. Submissions that are incomplete, late or received by unauthorized means will not be considered.

Applicants are encouraged to submit in advance of the deadline so that unforeseen problems with materials can be addressed. Staff are available during office hours Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm to answer questions. There is no fee to submit qualifications.

Total Project Budget: $35K, (Concepts with significant IT or digital cost will be considered for additional funding) Inclusive of all expenses including design, fabrication, transportation, installation, maintenance plan, travel, insurance, taxes, and fees.
