Project Description This open call for qualifications will result in three artists being invited to develop proposals for an interior flat mural at Palm Springs International Airport. Because of its unique location, the mural will be in a highly visible area and will be seen from a distance (100 ft+) as well as close up (as close as less than 3 ft). We are specifically looking for artists who have created and implemented murals that provide a great deal of visual intrigue when a viewer is both far away and very close. Installation Requirements The artist awarded the commission will be fully responsible for the installation of the mural onsite and will be required to meet all airport regulations for safety and scheduling during installation. This will require conforming to approved installation days and working outside of standard airport operating hours (work will occur through the night - estimated to be between 8:00pm - 4:30am).

Artwork Goals The goal of the mural is: Primarily: Enhance passenger experience during waiting times. Provide a sense of calm and lower stresses associated with travel. Secondarily: Enhance the working environment of airport staff.

Eligibility Artist must be living and working in the United States. Artist must have evidence of successfully completing a large-scale mural. Submissions must be documentation of previously completed and installed works. Do not submit a proposal for a new mural at the airport. Submissions to this Open Call containing developed proposals for a new mural at the airport are unsolicited and the application will be disqualified. From this call, three selected artists will be provided additional details and specifications in the commissioning of developed proposals for this opportunity. Additionally, artists must be onsite for installation of the work and are required to work outside of standard airport operating hours (meaning through the night - estimated to be between 8:00pm - 4:30am)
