Call Summary
This project is looking for artists with experience creating artistic screens, fences, barriers, barricades, etc to develop concepts for a metal wall / screen that will be installed along the front of a new municipal building.

Open to artists living and working in the US.

The selected artists will work closely with the architects, designers, developers, and construction teams to realize their proposed vision for this project.

This is an open call for qualifications. From the call, three artists will be invited to develop commissioned proposals. Artists at that time will be provided more details about the site, location, and stakeholder priorities for concept development.

Project budget is comprehensive will cover all costs associated with the project including materials, installation, artist fee, travel, insurance, subcontractors, etc.

Artwork Goals
Site specific information, goals of the community, and additional details will be provided to the three artists selected from this call to develop commissioned proposals.

In general, the goal of this opportunity is to creatively and artistically represent the community in a timeless manner through the creation of this architectural exterior wall / screen using light, shadow, positive/negative space, and visual expression.
 
Artwork Location Description
Location specifics along with visual references, site plans, and other details will be provided to the three artists selected from this call and invited to develop commissioned proposals.
 
Eligibility
Artists must be living and working in the US.

Teams and collectives can apply as a single submission.

Must have successfully completed a public art or similar project with a budget of at least $15,000

Selection Information
Selection Process
From this open call, a committee of stakeholders will review the submissions and invite three finalists to develop commissioned proposals. Those three artists will each present their proposals to the review committee. If one of those directions is selected, the selected artist will work closely with the architects, designers, developers, and construction teams to realize their proposed vision for this project.
 
Selection Criteria
The review committee will be evaluating submissions to this call based on criteria such as:
Artistic Excellence & Display of Fundamentals - Exceptional craft, color usage, composition, and visual impact across past projects.
Conceptual Versatility - Past work shows strong conceptual responsiveness across a variety of compositions. Does not rely on a single, rigid formula.
Scale and Experience - Past work demonstrates experience managing projects of similar square footage, budgets, and physical complexity.
Professionalism of submitted materials - Paying close attention to things like documentation quality and general accuracy in response to each element of the submission
Regional Connection - While not required to be living in Missouri, the review committee is interested in learning what connections, if any, an artist has to the state or region of the US.

 
Timeline
Sept 7, 2026 - RFQ Opens

RFQ Closing: Date Listed Above. Closing time is 6pm Central Time
2 Weeks: Review committee evaluates submissions
1 Week: 3 shortlisted artists and 2 alternates notified. Non-selected artists notified.
1 Week: Shortlisted artists signed contracts due.
4 Weeks: Final concept submissions due. Artists present concepts to review committee.
2-4 Weeks: Committee review. Key city stakeholder reviews. Selected artist notified.
