Call Summary
Greentown Labs and Rice Management Company request qualifications from professional artists or artist teams for an artistic wall application on the east wall of the new Greentown Labs facility, the largest climatetech startup incubator in North America. Originally founded in Boston, Greentown Houston is the first out-of-state expansion, which opened on Earth Day, April 22, 2021. Greentown Labs provides over 40,000 square feet of prototyping lab, office, and community space for about 50 climatetech startups, totaling 200-300 employees. Greentown’s members, partners and staff are united by a common mission: solving the climate crisis through entrepreneurship and collaboration.

Greentown Labs is located in the Ion District, a new kind of urban district in Houston initiated by Rice Management Company that prioritizes street life, public space, and a mix of uses that embrace technology, community, and sustainability. It is centrally located at the heart of innovation activity in Houston, encompassing over 16 acres in Midtown. At the center of the district is The Ion, a 266,000-square foot structure designed to bring Houston’s entrepreneurial, corporate, and academic communities together into collaborative spaces and programs.
